Clarke runs easy over Perry

PERRY - After a 6-0 lead in the first quarter, Clarke took control of the game in a 54-0 win Friday at Perry.

The Indians used 288 yards on the ground to get the win. The Indians’ rushing attack was led by Dale Showers who finished with 118 yards on 11 carries. He also scored twice.

As a team, Clarke finished the game with 36 carries making an average of 8 yards a carry. Clarke’s defense on the ground was just as effective holding Perry to 86 yards on 32 attempts.

The ground game was good enough for Clarke not to have to pass. Quarterback Garrett Diehl finished with three of five in the air for 67 yards. Two of those passes went for scores. One scoring pass play went for 44 yards. Josue Torres was the leading receiver with 66 yards off of two catches and one score.

Perry completed four of nine passes for 24 yards.

Clarke scored six in the first quarter, but scored double digit in each quarter following. Clarke scored 20 in the second and 14 in the third and fourth quarters.

Perry finished the game with 110 yards of total offense. The leading tackler for Clarke was Mason Fry with nine.

Clarke hosts Clarinda at 7 p.m. Friday, Sept. 17. The Cardinals are 0-3 on the season losing 20-13 in overtime at Treynor Sept. 10.
