Norma DeWitt

Osceola

Norma Jean DeWitt, daughter of Harold Linford Reed and Neva Cinderella (Campbell) Reed was born April 6, 1935 in Novelty, Missouri and passed from this life Sunday, September 11, 2022 at Southern Hills Specialty Care in Osceola, Iowa at 87 years of age.

Norma grew up in Novelty, Missouri, her family moved to Seattle, Washington during WWII and her father worked in the shipyard, helping with the war effort. The family returned to Novelty following the war and on August 6, 1953 she was united in marriage to Gerald Dean DeWitt, and three children, Linda, Gary and Keith blessed this union. Soon after her marriage, Gerald reported to the U.S. Army and he returned in July of 1955. Gerald and Norma moved to Ollie, Iowa where Gerald began his teaching career. They lived there for six years before moving to Farmington, Iowa and in 1965 they moved to Osceola. Norma was a homemaker and loving mother, when the kids were all in school, she began working for Robinson’s Department Store in Osceola and worked there many years, working as office manager when she retired. Norma was an excellent seamstress, sewing many things for family and many prom dresses and wedding dresses over the years.

Those relatives who preceded Norma in death were her parents, Harold and Neva Reed, husband, Gerald DeWitt and her brother, Kenneth Reed.

Norma leaves to cherish her memory, daughter, Linda  (Kim) Swaim of Indianola, IA, son, Gary DeWitt of Des Moines, IA, son, Keith (Tina) DeWitt of Waukee, IA, grandchildren, Natalie Swaim of Knoxville, TN,  Ben Swaim of Woodstock, IL, Kalynn, Madison  and Cooper DeWitt all of Waukee, IA, sister Donna Faye Simmons of Novelty, MO as well as other relatives and many friends.

Norma’s family greeted friends from 1:00 until 2:00 on Tuesday, September 20, 2022 at Kale Funeral Home in Osceola. Graveside services were held at 2:00 at Maple Hill Cemetery in Osceola.
