Dorman Eugene Reed, son of William Edward Reed and Elsie Fry Reed was born March 15, 1944, in Osceola, Iowa. After battling cancer, he passed from this life at 76 years of age on Thursday, February 25, 2021, at his home in West Des Moines with family beside him.

Dorman grew up in Van Wert and graduated from Van Wert High School. He was united in marriage to Kathleen Anne Reynolds on April 10, 1964, in Van Wert, Iowa at the Assembly of God Church. Four children blessed this union, Brenda, Valorie, Karen and Shane.

Dorman was a loving and hard-working family man. At a young age he learned to drive his dad’s straight truck. After working at Ford Motor Company for 8 years, he put his truck driving skills to use and worked for Jimmy Dean Sausage Company and Walmart, driving his truck all over the country for 38 years.

Dorman lived in Van Wert, IA, Menomonie, WI, Ottawa, KS, Bethany, MO and recently West Des Moines, IA. He enjoyed wintering with Kathy in Mercedes, Texas.

Dorman had a tremendous love for his family. He enjoyed visiting with friends and offering a helping hand to those in need. Matthew 25:35 says, “I was a stranger and you welcomed me.” Dorman welcomed all with his southern Iowa grace and hospitality.

Relatives who preceded Dorman in death were son Shane Reed, his parents Eddie and Elsie Reed, brother Darwin Reed, father-in-law Fred Reynolds and mother-in-law Elaine Reynolds, nephews Larry and Chuck Reed, sister-in-laws Marcena and Linda Reed, and brother-in-law Vance Stubbs.

Dorman leaves to cherish his memory; wife Kathy Reed of West Des Moines, IA, daughter Brenda Reed and Dan Chastain of Corpus Christi, TX, daughter Valorie and Ryan Veatch of Clive, IA, daughter Karen and Kevin Baldock of Waukee, IA; grandchildren Autumn Morrison, Kane Ekeland, Gannon Baldock and Bailey Baldock and Tyler Hoy; great grandchildren Lani, Jaeden and Lydia; brother Chet and Sharon Reed, of Van Wert, IA, brother Eldon Reed of Chariton, IA, sister Maelene and Duane Otto of Van Wert, IA; brother-in-law Skip and Donna Reynolds of St. Louis, MO, and sister-in-law Judy Stubbs of Norwalk, IA, as well as many relatives and friends. He had a special love for all his nieces and nephews.

Cremation was entrusted to Kale Funeral Home in Osceola and a Celebration of Dorman’s Life will be held at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be sent to Every Step Hospice.
