Area cross country roundup: Central Decatur hosts, teams run at Trojan and West Central Valley Invites

Trojan Invitational

PLEASANTVILLE – Clarke, Central Decatur and Interstate 35 raced Monday afternoon at Pleasantville Country Club.

In the boys meet, Central Decatur came away with first place with a team score of 51. Interstate 35 was fifth with a score of 155 and Clarke was 11th with a score of 218.

The Indians were led by Ethan Domina, who ran a 19:58 for 33rd place. Calhoun Lundquist was 38th with a clip of 20:16.

Central Decatur’s leaders were Tate Swartz, who ran a 17:20 for the third fastest time on the boys side. Glen Oesch was not far off his pace, running a 17:43 for seventh fastest. A step behind Oesch was Tyson McDole, who ran a 17:45 for eighth place.

Vincent Carmcamo (18:07) also had a quality finish, placing 12th. The top four finishers for the Cardinals were all freshmen.

Interstate 35’s Wyatt Fizgerald lived up to the Roadrunner name, running a 17:36 for the fourth fastest time. He ran a 5:40 mile split.

Mason Maiers placed 13th for I-35, running a clip of 18:27.

On the girls side, Central Decatur placed third with a team score of 84.

Interstate 35 and Clarke did not register team scores.

Abbi Goering was the quickest for Interstate 35, running a 21:03 for fifth fastest overall. Clarke’s Katie Donaldson was sixth overall, running a 21:40.

Lauren Bussanmus finished 12th for Interstate 35, running a 22:22 time.

For Central Decatur, Kaydee Swartz finished ninth of point eligible runners (14th overall) with a time of 22:34. Teammate Isa Cote finished 18th overall, but was 13th of point eligible runners with a time of 23:53.

Harrison Bevan (23:58) and Lauren Saxton (24:36) finished 15th and 18th for the Cardinals, respectively.

Central Decatur Invitational

LEON – Central Decatur played host last Tuesday, hosting a cross country invitational that involved Clarke and CD.

For the girls, the overall winner was Chariton’s Haddon Anderson with a time of 22:35. Clarke’s Katie Donaldson placed second, running a 22:44.

Central Decatur’s Kaydee Swartz (24:01) and Harrisen Bevan (24:06) finished eighth and ninth, respectively.

Destiny Ashby was the next best finisher for Clarke, placing 15th overall with a 25:12 time.

As a team the Central Decatur girls placed third, scoring 67 points. Clarke did not register a team score.

The Central Decatur boys had strong finishes from Will Gillis and Tate Swartz, finishing third and fourth, respectively.

Gillis ran a time of 18:10 and Swartz finished with an 18:13. Tyson McDole was also in the top-10, running a time of 18:41 for sixth place.

Clarke’s Ethan Domina ran a 21:03 for 18th fastest. Diego Cavanzon was not far off his pace, running a 21:13 for 20th.

Central Decatur won the boys race, scoring 31 points. Clarke placed sixth, scoring 118 points.

West Central Valley Invite

STUART – Interstate 35 raced in Stuart Sept. 5, with only the boys team running as a points eligible team.

The boys finished fifth of 11 teams, scoring 161 points. Nodaway Valley won the boys race, scoring 33 points.

Interstate 35’s Wyatt Fitzgerald finished 10th with a time of 19:13.87. Teammate Mason Maiers clocked in at 17th wih a time of 19:47.60.

Maiers’ time was the second fastest among freshman boys with Nodaway Valley’s Doug Berg (19:38.35) posting the fastest time among ninth graders.

For the Roadrunner girls, Abbi Goering posted a time of 21:42.52, the fourth fastest in the pack.

Lauren Bussanmus rounded out the top-10, running a 24:22.92.

Seventy six runners ran in the girls race and 107 ran in the boys race.
