WINTERSET —Clarke’s boys track and field team saw what it will take to be successful at Friday’s outdoor season-opening meet at Winterset.
Stiff competition pushed the Indian boys throughout the meet.
Clarke finished in 12th place with two points.
“The competition was tough, but it showed the newer guys what we need to do in order to be successful,” said Clarke caoch Kyle Eckermann.
Brian Avalos was fifth in the long jump in his first high school meet, scoring Clarke’s only points.
The Indians gave a solid effort going up against teams such as Carlisle, Earlham and ADM.
What stood out the most was how hard the boys ran, no matter where they were at they pushed themselves,” Eckermann said.
Clarke now has a good idea of where it can set the bar going forward.
“We just need to keep working hard in order to get our times down by the end of the season,” Eckermann said.
