No citations were issued after an accident 4:39 p.m. July 26 on U.S. Highway 34.

According to an Osceola Police report, Marcella Marie Short, 64, of Osceola, driving a 2017 Ford, was eastbound on McLane Street with her right turn signal on as she turned into the HyVee parking lot. Beverly Jo Sims, 64, of Osceola, driving a 2006 Buick didn’t see the turn signal and rear ended Short’s vehicle.

Estimated damage was $1,500 to Short’s vehicle and $4,000 to Sims’ vehicle.

Francisco Javier Ornelas, 32, of Estherville, was cited for operation without registration after an accident 6:26 p.m. July 27 on East Washington Street.

According to an Osceola Police report, Ornelas was turning into the bank parking lot when he struck the power pole.

Estimated damage was $5,000 to Alliant Energy’s power line/power pole and $1,500 to Ornelas’ vehicle.

No citations were issued after an accident 9:22 p.m. July 28 at Pilot Truck Stop.

According to an Osceola Police report, Jerry Wright, 48, of Raleigh, NC, driving a 2014 Kenworth semi truck and trailer was backing into a parking space and his trailer struck the 2014 Peterbuilt semi truck and trailer in the neighboring stall.

Estimated damage was $1,500 to the 2014 Peterbuilt and $100 to Wright’s vehicle.

No citations were issued after an accident 3:56 p.m. July 29 on South Kossuth Street.

According to an Osceola Police report, Paul Edward Stalcup, 64, of Osceola, driving a 2009 Frei, was backing the straight truck with the cargo box attached into a residents driveway and the top of the cargo box caught the telephone wire and pulled it enough that a pole broke and fell into the street. The cables snapped and struck the cargo light/brake light on a Chevrolet truck owned by David Garrett which was parked near the pole.

Estimated damage was $150 to Garrett’s cargo/brake light and $1,000 to Alliant Energy’s pole and attached equipment.

No citations were issued after an accident 11:55 p.m. Friday at the intersection of South Ridge Road and U.S. Highway 34.

According to an Osceola Police report, Norma Luz Mojica Delagado, 21, of Osceola, driving a 2017 Kia, was headed east on West McLane street when she swerved across traffic and entered the north ditch, continued northeast and hit a large utility pole head on.

Delagado was transported to Methodist Hospital in Des Moines.

Estimated damage was $2,500 to Alliant Energy’s power pole and $15,000 to Delagado’s vehicle.

No citations were issued after an accident 10:25 a.m. Saturday on Elk Street.

According to a Clarke County Sheriff’s report, Kelley Sue Luce, 43, of Osceola, driving a 2019 GMC stopped at the intersection of Lacelle Highway and Elk Street before proceeding and striking the right rear end of Hayden Douglas Hostetler, 29, of Grand River, driving a 1985 Toyota north on Lacelle Highway.

Estimated damage was $5,000 to Hostetler’s vehicle and $5,000 to Luce’s vehicle.

No citations were issued after an accident 5:03 p.m. Saturday on U.S. Highway 34.

According to a Clarke County Sheriff’s report, Diego Sebastian Castillo Mejia, 37, of Moncks Corner, SC, driving a 2021 Volkswagon was eastbound on Highway 34 when a deer entered the roadway and Mejia was unable to stop the vehicle in time to avoid the deer.

Estimated damage was $4,000 to Mejia’s vehicle.

According to a Clarke County Sheriff’s report, Robby John Rosenbalm, 40, of Woodburn, driving a 2012 Harley Davidson motorcycle struck a deer that came into the roadway from the west ditch.

Estimated damage was $2,500 to Rosenbalm’s vehicle.
