Chamber pushes warrior dollars in hopes of more local shopping

Warrior dollars are essentially Monopoly money printed at the Osceola Chamber Main Street office. They act as gift cards that can be used at any local stores with the exception of Wal Mart.

“So if you don’t know what to get somebody, these are one size fits all,” said Jan Rychnovsky, OCMS events coordinator. “Pay for something with the warrior dollars and then the business that banks locally just takes them to their bank and then the bank will reimburse them and then we reimburse the bank. So it’s just a big circle.”

The warrior dollars cannot be purchased anywhere but the Chamber office. Rychnovsky suggested giving warrior dollars rather that gift cards for Christmas gifts so that shoppers have to stay local and support local businesses.

“For three years now we’ve been really trying to push warrior dollars,” said Rychnovsky.
