CCDC grants and donations from Oct. 13 meeting

The Osceola Chamber Main Street asked for an $800 donation from the Clarke County Developement Corp. during the Oct. 13 meeting in order to have real reindeer at this years’ Holiday Brilliance event. The reindeer are from Humeston and do these types of events all over the state. OCMS got on the list two years ago in order to have reindeer at the 2021 Holiday Brilliance event. Two reindeer will be brought up and will take turns being in a pen on the Osceola square with their handler dressed as an elf.

The $800 donation was approved by the CCDC board.

Cross Ministries is raising money to help stock Osceola’s three major food pantries. They asked for a $500 donation to go towards picking up the most neccesary items for the holiday season.

The $500 donation was approved by the CCDC board.

Osceola Chamber Main Street requested a matching grant of $50,000 to go toward back entrance updates and repaires of businesses around the square. OCMS wants businesses to be prepared for the influx of back entrance trafick that their shops will have next year during the downtown renovation as streets and sidewalks will be redone making front entrance access difficult for a time.

The $50,000 matching grant was approved by the CCDC grant committee.

The CCDC discussed funding the pavement of a section of the Clarke County Fairgrounds parking lot. Andrew’s Construction bid $82,558 for a 65 foot section of concrete to be poured. The section would be directly in front of the events building, including a sidewalk and connection to the paved drive down the fairgrounds.

The $82,558 bid was approved by the CCDC board.
