Janet was born on October 4, 1954, to Howard Earl and Nina Bell (Lampe) Mills. She was one of nine kids and was the middle child. She attended Clarke Community Schools in Osceola, graduating in 1973.

Janet worked at various jobs throughout her life and retired in November 2016. She was married to Mark Vink on August 9, 1997. The greatest joy of their marriage was when they adopted Charles in October 2007, and when her granddaughter, Savannah was born.

Janet was a member of the Colona United Methodist Church, where she was heavily involved. She enjoyed working with the youth group and going on 40 mission trips with Mark and the youth. Her passion was sewing and she recently took up quilting.

Janet loved spending time with her family and friends, especially her 150 nieces and nephews. She was happiest when she was cooking, baking and crocheting for them all. She looked forward every year for her sisters weekend trips and the many fun trips with Louise. Janet loved her devotional time. When she was diagnosed with cancer, her new motto in life was “I pray everyone sees Christ through me.”
