Terrace Hill endowment for musical arts presents “The Victory Vertical Project”

The Terrace Hill Endowment for Musical Arts is presenting a piano program, “The Victory Vertical Project.” Join us on Sunday, February 9th at 3:00 pm at Faith Lutheran Church for this unique program performed by concert pianist and Steinway Artist, Dr. Garik Pedersen.

“Victory Vertical” pianos were developed by the Steinway factory during World War II when raw metals were needed for the war effort, and piano makers could no longer manufacture traditional pianos. These small, lightweight pianos contained no more than 33 lbs. of metal and could be shipped overseas to soldiers in the field, creating entertainment and improving morale. The response to these field pianos was so great that when production ended in 1953, 2,436 “Victory Vertical” pianos had been shipped to troops on three continents!

During this presentation, pianist Garik Pedersen will share a slideshow about the “Victory Vertical” pianos, accompanied by a piano performance in various styles that were popular during the WWII era.

Tickets are $20 for adults, $15 for veterans, and $10 for youth (ages 16 and under). For tickets, visit victoryvertical.eventbrite.com or call 515-281-7205.

Faith Lutheran Church is located at 10395 University Avenue in Clive, Iowa.

The Terrace Hill Endowment for Musical Arts was established in 1986, and holds the Terrace Hill Piano Competition annually in February. This piano competition provides scholarships to three Iowa high school seniors who enroll as a piano major or minor at any Iowa college or university. Proceeds from this performance of The Victory Vertical Project will help fund future scholarships. For more information, visit: terracehillpianocompetition.org/
