Kathryn Elizabeth Hommer, 90, of Osceola died Monday, April 4, 2016, at Southern Hills Specialty Care in Osceola.
Services were 10:30 a.m. Friday, April 8, at Kale Funeral Home, 301 S. Main St., in Osceola with the Rev. John Long and the Rev. Jess Gaul officiating. Visitation with family present was from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, April 7, at the funeral home. Interment was in New Virginia Cemetery. Kathryn Elizabeth Hommer, daughter of Allen Willard Gillett and Ethyl Opal (Horr) Gillett, was born Sept. 8, 1925, in Milo. Kathryn received her education in Warren County rural schools and graduated from Indianola High School. She attended Simpson College and received her normal teacher’s training, which led to her teaching for a brief time in Warren County country schools.
On May 14, 1944, Kathryn married Everett Raymond Hommer at Indianola United Methodist Church and four children, Thomas Ray, Vicki Jo, Charles Dale and Donald Dee blessed this union.
In later years, Kathryn later worked for New Virginia School system for over seven years. She was a member of American Legion Auxiliary in New Virginia.
Kathryn is survived by her son Thomas (Sharon Holtz) Hommer of Indianola; daughter Vicki (Merlin) Morris of New Virginia; son Charles (Cathy) Hommer of Indianola; son Donald (Deborah) Hommer of Mt. Vernon; grandchildren, Chad (Carolyn) Hommer, Michael (Jodie) Hommer, Melody (Steve) Hommer-Ramsey, Brett Morris, Ryan (Deanna) Morris, Amy (Devin) Janssen, Becky (Matt) Van Wyk, Brian (Jamie) Hommer, Chelsi Hommer, Katie (Bryan) Ripke and Jacob Hommer; great-grandchildren, Tyler Hommer, Nicole Hommer, Madison Hommer, Riley Hommer, Logan Hommer, Jordan Williamson, Hailey Ramsey, Andrew Morris, Zachary Cook, Brant Morris, Jack Morris, Oakley Morris, Kaitlyn Morris, Kelsey Morris, Jorja Janssen, Emlynn Janssen, Archer Janssen, Cash Janssen, Brooke McQuiston, Aiden McQuiston, Hudson Van Wyk, Kale Van Wyk, Gunner Hommer, Eli Hommer, Henrik Ripke and Truett Ripke; great-great-grandchild Tatum Williamson; step-brothers, Darrow (Lucy) Condon of Mexia, Texas, and Rodney Condon of Illinois; sister Edyth Lammey of Pea Ridge, Arkansas; as well as other relatives and many friends.
Kathryn was preceded in death by her parents; husband Everett Raymond Hommer; brother Clifford Gillett and stepmother Lorene Condon.
