Betty Chaney Osceola

Betty Ann Chaney, 68, of Osceola died Wednesday, Dec. 2, 2015, at Clarke County Hospital in Osceola.

Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, Dec. 7, at Kale Funeral Home, 301 S. Main St., in Osceola with interment at Moon Cemetery in Macksburg. Visitation was noon Sunday with the family present from 5 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home in Osceola. Online condolences may be left at www.kalefuneralhome.com.

Betty Ann Chaney, daughter of Cecil Robert Ethington and LaVonna Pearl “Sunny” Dixon Ethington Greenwalt, was born May 17, 1947, in Creston. Betty received her education at Interstate 35 High School, graduating in 1965. She attended Southwestern Community College in Creston where she received her associates degree.

Shortly after her graduation from high school, Betty married Edward Dale Scrivner. After nearly 20 years of marriage, Ed died in 1986 after a short battle with cancer. Betty later met Loyal Dean Chaney and on May 21, 1988, they married in Osceola.

Betty began working as a beautician and farm wife, then later managed a Breadeaux Pizza franchise. After her marriage to Dean, she spent several years as a veterinarian tech and was later the business manager and co-owner for Chaney Twin Service. Most recently, Betty could be seen as a team manager and later a night auditor for Lakeside Casino.

Betty is survived by her husband Dean Chaney of Osceola; children, Rodger (Kana) Scrivner, Kathleen (Dave) Knight, Christy (Brian) Lundy and Bob (Susan) Scrivner; 20 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Betty is also survived by her sisters, Debra L. Stocker and Marcia Freely McCulloch Berger; brother Cecil Robert (Louise) Ethington Jr.; brother-in-law Dennis (Kay) Chaney; sisters-in-law, Jan LaPlaunt and Janiece (Dave) Emm; nieces, Tara Lynn, Tiffany Hillyer, Janelle Dickman, CiCi Smith, Meghan Lievanos and Sunita Phipps; nephews, Robert Ethington, Eric McCullough and Trevor Phipps; as well as numerous other relatives (Scrivners) and many friends.

Betty was preceded in death by her parents; first husband Edward Dale Scrivner; sister Sheri Phipps; grandson Caleb James Hockel; brothers-in-law, Bob Stocker, Jim LaPlaunt and Lyle Chaney and nephew Robert Chaney.
