Robert Powell, 85, of Osceola died Aug. 31, 2012, at Clarke County Hospital.
Funeral services were 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 4, at Kale Funeral Home, 301 S. Main St. The Rev. Chuck DeVos and Rev. William E. Ballard officiated. Burial was in Maple Hill Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to HCI Care Services.
Robert Laurel Powell, son of Ardis Wanda (Page) and Laurel Clell Powell, was born Feb. 5, 1927, in Clarke County.
Robert graduated from Osceola High School in 1945 and entered the Army, where he served as a company clerk in Germany during World War II.
Upon leaving the military in 1947, Robert married Orma Louise Grimm on Nov. 14, 1947, in Osceola. She died in 2010.
Bob worked for Great Plains Pipeline in Osceola, when the couple first married, then became a farmer and raised his family in Clarke County. He farmed at Woodburn, near Lacelle, and spent 17 years farming four miles northeast of Osceola. He left farming in 1973 and became a custodian for Clarke Community Schools for eight years, delivered parts for Bob’s Big A auto parts, worked for other farmers and delivered seed corn for Ron Woods.
Bob is survived by his children, Danny (Lou) Powell of Virginia Beach, Va., Marilyn (Rodney) Harger of Osceola and Deloris (Eric) Smith of Osceola; grandchildren, Rodney (Kari) Harger of Ashdown, Ark., Ronda (Jeff) Webster of New Virginia, Christopher (Marie) Powell of Evans, Ga., Laurie Powell (friend Julie Flynn) of Boston, Mass., Derick (Nikki) Smith of Osceola and Troy (Joann) Smith of Ames; great grandchildren, Zane, Levi and Ashlyn Harger, Briana and Hope Lowry, Siara and Tristan Powell, Zachary and Spencer Smith and Adalyn Smith; step-grandchildren, Kayla and Amanda Farlow; step-great-great-grandchild Jenna Rucker; sister Leona Collins of Truro; brother-in-law Ron Seaton; sisters-in-law, Orvetta Stickley and Marian Grimm; brother-in-law Estell (Elaine) Grimm; best friend Billy Chase of Osceola; along with a host of other family members, friends and acquaintances.
In addition to his wife, Bob was preceded in death by his parents; brother Eugene (Betty) Powell; sister Luetta Seaton; brothers-in-law, Mardis Collins and Dale (Wanda) Grimm; sisters-in-law, Vernice (Tony) Nunez, Clara (Milford) Bruns and Merna (Scottie) Gere; and brothers-in-law, Carrol Grimm, Dean Grimm and Richard Stickley.
