Leon double shooting ruled murder-suicide

Authorities are calling the recent deaths of Leon residents Ashley Singh, 20, and Brandan Broich, 21, a murder-suicide.

According to Leon police, Broich shot Singh and then himself. The incident occurred Jan. 16 in the couple's home at 305 South Main St.

The Decatur County Sheriff's office responded to the shooting after they received a 9-1-1 call at 12:07 a.m.

The investigation is ongoing by the sheriff's office, Leon Police Department and the Division of Criminal Investigation.

Autopsy results are pending at the State Medical Examiner's office.

According to court documents, Singh filed a temporary protective order against Broich in October 2008 for relief from domestic abuse. The protective order was then canceled a week later at the request of Singh.

Broich and Singh were parents of a 3-year-old boy. Singh worked at Dollar General; Broich at Boyd Construction as a carpenter.

A joint memorial service will be held Wednesday at Slade-O'Donnell Funeral Home in Leon at 6 p.m.
