This correspondent has been a bit out of touch this week as she and Grandpa Merrill went to Ames to stay with the three grandchildren, Riley, Halli and Maddie, while their parents, Stacy and Cathy McCuddin, traveled to Turks and Caicos Islands where they participated in the wedding activities of Devan Miller and Lauren Walker and their children Zack and Alecia. They enjoyed the island for a week before returning home late Sunday evening. Grandpa returned to New Virginia on Thursday and Grandma returned home on Monday morning.
A good crowd attended the Appreciation Day activities hosted by City State Bank on Saturday. Everyone enjoyed barbecue pork sandwiches, and all the fixins for their meal while they listened to the music of Phil McCrea and his band. The weather was perfect for such an occasion.
At the New Virginia Saddle Club, equestrians and their winning horses competed all day Saturday, in the large horse show. The competition included all ages and many classes. Many of the riders expressed their appreciation for the nice facilities at the Saddle Club grounds this year with a great arena and the large parking area for their horses and the trailers.
Students and faculty enjoyed a week of homecoming activities at Interstate 35 schools with each day having certain dress up requests and the crowning of the King and Queen for the special event. Miss Erica Lensing was given the honor of being named the queen and Zack Moore wore the crown for the King. Erica is the daughter of David and Deb Lensing of New Virginia and Zack is the son of Kim Heston of New Virginia. The football team provided an exciting game with a big victory again Central Decatur on Friday night.
We find another house in town this week, Everett Kephart has moved a house here from St. Charles and it is now sitting on a foundation at 402 Main Street. Mr. Kephart has several repairs and remodeling before this project is complete. This house is number seven that Everett has moved and completed in town the last few years. These have all been nice additions to our town.
Jonathan and Emily Jones and little Ryan of Des Moines were Friday evening visitors of his parents Randy and Kathy Jones.
Little Miss Jenna McCuddin celebrated her fourth birthday on Thursday. Those who helped her to celebrate the occasion on Saturday evening at the home of Grandpa Memll and Grandma Arieen McCuddin were Bruce and Maryann McCuddin, Jake and Brooklyn, Riley, Halli, and Maddie McCuddin, and her parents Mike and Jami McCuddin and brothers, Brennon and Alex.
