Martensdale-St Marys 66, Murray 40
MARTENSDALE – Murray (13-6) fell to 21-0 Class 1A No. 2 Martensdale-St Marys 66-40 Friday.
The Blue Devils jumped out to a 21-8 lead in the first quarter. Murray kept the game close in the second quarter, but Martensdale scored 22 in the third quarter to extend its lead.
Christian Nevarez led the team in scoring with 10 points. Aydan Dinham had seven rebounds, three assists, three steals and one block.
“There is a rason Martensdale is ranked in the top-5. They moe the ball as well as any team we saw all year,” Murray head coach Darin Wookey said. “On top of that, they can really shoot the ball. We had a goal to keep them in the 60s, and we did that Friday night. christian Nevarez played well again for us tonight.”
Clarke 68, Interstate 35 63
Clarke (7-11) knocked off Interstate 35 (5-13) Thursday, 68-63.
Both offenses came out firing, with Clarke leading 34-30 at halftime. A third-quarter stand from the Indians held I-35 to five points, giving Clarke the boost it needed as I-35 put up 28 points in the fourth quarter.
Dalton Stubbe led the team in scoring with 21 points. Jack Cooley scored 20 points and grabbed 14 rebounds for a double-double. Cooley also finished with five assists, one block and one steal.
Woodward-Granger 47, Central Decatur 41
LEON – Central Decatur (12-7) fell just short in a 47-41 loss to Woodward-Granger (9-13) Thursday.
The Cardinals trailed 16-7 after the first quarter before outscoring the Hawks 13-9 in the second quarter to trail 25-20 at halftime. Woodward-Granger held off Central Decatur in the second half, outscoring the Cardinals 22-21 to keep them at bay.
Cauy Masters recorded a double-double with 14 points and 10 rebounds. He also had four steals, one block and one assist.
Murray 73, Mormon Trail 42
MURRAY – Murray took down Mormon Trail (12-7) on Senior Night Tuesday, 73-42.
The Mustangs took a lead after 15-point tie in the first quarter. Murray scored 24 points in the second quarter and 25 points in the fourth quarter for the big win.
Four Mustangs scored double-digits. Colton Siefkas scored 18, Chase Werner tallied 15, Nevarez put up 14 and Brycen Wookey finished with 10 points.
“I just want to say how proud I am of our seniors. Those guys played great (Tuesday) against a very good Mormon Trial team,” Darin Wookey said. “We beat them early in the year down there, and then they beat us pretty good in the conference tournament. (Tuesday) on Senior Night it was our turn to play well.”
Central Decatur 62, Clarke 61
Central Decatur squeaked out a 62-61 win over Clarke Tuesday, Feb. 9.
At halftime, Clarke held a slim 29-28 lead before the Cardinals outscored Clarke 16-15 in the third quarter and 18-17 in the fourth quarter.
Central Decatur’s Matthew Boothe scored 18 points for a team-high. Trey Hullinger scored 16 points and Masters put up 10 points to round out double-digit scorers for Central Decatur.
Clarke’s Jack Cooley grabbed 12 rebounds and scored 12 points for a double-double. Cooley also assisted on six scores, blocked six shots and had four steals. Kamis Bulis scored a game-high 19 points with 13 rebounds and assisted on six scores.
