Murray 49, Lamoni 41
MURRAY – Murray (12-5) won in a makeup game over Lamoni (11-5) Saturday, winning 49-41.
Murray held a one-point advantage through the first quarter and turned it into an 11-point lead at the break. Lamoni cut the margin to four entering the fourth, but the Mustangs held off the Demons for a win.
“This was a good game for us defensively,” said Murray head coach Darin Wookey. “Lamoni was without (Hayden Stewart) which slowed them down offensively. Colton Siefkas had a great game tonight. ... Zach Belden hit some big free throws down the stretch to seal the win.”
Siefkas scored a team-high 22 points, grabbing 10 rebounds for a double-double.
Clarke 78, Centerville 57
OSCEOLA – Clarke (6-10) bounced back from a two-game losing streak with a 78-57 win over Centerville (4-11) Friday.
The Indians scored 18 points in the first and second quarters to take a 10-point lead at halftime. A 24-point third quarter gave Clarke the boost it needed for the win.
Jack Cooley scored 42 points on 15 of 28 shooting from the field. He also went 11-for-13 from the free-throw line and grabbed nine rebounds.
Martensdale-St Marys 78, Central Decatur 45
MARTENSDALE – Central Decatur (11-6) fell to Class 1A No. 3 Martensdale-St Marys (18-0) Friday, 78-45.
The Blue Devils held the Cardinals to five points in the first quarter, taking a 13-point lead after eight minutes. Central Decatur battled through the second quarter, but 24 points to open the third quarter for Martensdale sealed the win.
Cauy Masters grabbed 10 rebounds and scored six points. Trey Hullinger led all Cardinal scorers with 14 points.
Murray 84, Moulton-Udell 27
MOULTON – Murray beat Moulton-Udell (0-18) in a non-conference tilt Friday night, winning big over the Eagles 84-27.
A 23-3 first quarter set the tone for the Mustangs, who had little push back from the Eagles in the game. Murray outscored Moulton-Udell 27-0 in the fourth quarter.
“Brycen Wookey and Gauge Mongar both played really well (Friday),” said Darin Wookey. “We were able to get all 13 kids into the game for four quarters. It’s always fun when you play well and get everyone in. We shot the ball really well tonight and dished out 20 assists.”
Brycen Wookey led in scoring with 20 points. Mongar scored 11 and Jace Rodecker had 10 points. Murray had 38 rebounds, 20 assists and 21 steals in the blowout win.
Lamoni 62, Clarke 47
LAMONI – Lamoni (11-5) took down Clarke 62-47 Tuesday.
Leading 16-10 after the first quarter, Lamoni’s 20-point second quarter put the Demons up 36-22 at halftime. The 14-point deficit proved too much as Clarke put up eight points in the third quarter and 17 points in the fourth quarter.
Cooley scored 14 points with 10 rebounds for a double-double. Spruceton Buddenhagen scored 10 points with three rebounds and one block.
Central Decatur 65, Wayne 45
LEON – Central Decatur knocked off now 9-10 Wayne 65-45 Tuesday.
Wayne held a tight contest through the first half, trailing 26-25, but Central Decatur opened the game up with a 27-point third quarter.
Matthew Boothe led all scorers with 22 points and grabbed nine rebounds to go with four assists. Jack Scrivner scored 10 points, tallied six rebounds and finished with three blocks and steals.
