Elva Wolfe

Elva Taylor Wolfe, son of Jacob Walter Wolfe and Edna Eunice Taylor Wolfe was born December 12, 1926, in Troy Township near Murray, and passed from this life Friday, September 3, 2021, at Homestead Assisted Living in Osceola, at 94 years of age.

Elva grew up on the family farm and attended country school. He graduated from Murray High School with the class of 1945. Elva entered the U.S. Army Air Force on January 7, 1946, and served until July 17, 1947, being honorably discharged with the rank of Sergeant. Elva returned from the Air Force and was united in marriage to Leona Irene Spellerberg on March 14, 1948, at Leona’s parents’ home in Madison County. They were blessed with three children: Rollin (Jim), Janice and Julia.

Elva was a farmer and enjoyed working the land. He was a member of the Murray Lions Club and Murray American Legion. While farming, Elva worked for the ASC Committee in Osceola for 15 years, painted and did wall papering. In December of 1976, Leona and Elva moved to Osceola. He continued his painting and papering, enjoyed playing golf, having coffee with friends, fishing and loved having his family together with all the grandchildren and great grandchildren. Elva was a member of the Osceola Eagles and the Osceola United Methodist Church. Elva and Leona enjoyed playing “Hand & Foot” with many friends in town and while spending winters in Sierra Vista, AZ. They also enjoyed dancing together at the Eagles and wherever they found a dance floor. He will be missed by many.

Those relatives who preceded Elva in death were his parents, Jacob and Edna Wolfe; wife, Leona Wolfe; brother, Raymond Wolfe; sister, Edna Remy; and grandchild, Joshua Wolfe.

Elva leaves to cherish his memory; son, Jim (Jennifer) Wolfe of Sierra Vista, AZ, daughter, Janice (Keith) Reynolds of St. Charles, IA, daughter, Julia (Bill) Kerns of Murray, IA; grandchildren, Jacob (Amanda) Wolfe of Sierra Vista, AZ, Jeremy (Colleen) Wolfe of Prescott, AZ, Wendy (Joe) Waterbury of Iowa City, IA, Charlie Grout of Indianola, IA, Kim (Wesley) Griffin of Grand River, IA, Jackie (Shawn Patton) Kerns of Hopeville, IA; step-grandchild, Damon Reynolds of Des Moines, IA; great-grandchildren Andrew and Rhyannon Wolfe, Emma and Zachary Wolfe, Thomas Waterbury, Hannah, Whitney (Chase Parrish), and Avary Grout, Gus and Grace Griffin, Mackenna Skroh, Wyatt Patton and Kate (Louis) Kriegel; sister-in-law, Jean Spellerberg; nephews, Greg Porterfield, T.J. (Mary Jane) Porterfield, Donald (Holly) Spellerberg; nieces, Connie Scott, Betty Cornelison, and Melanie Spellerberg as well as other relatives and many friends.

Memorials may be directed to the Freedom Rock in Murray in Elva’s name.

Private family services will be held at a later date.
