Shirley Richards

Shirley Ermalee Richards passed away on February 28, 2023, at Good Samaritan Society in Indianola. Funeral services will take place on Saturday, March 4, 2023, at 11:00am at Liberty Center Methodist Church. A visitation will take place at 10:00am prior to the service. Burial will immediately follow services at Liberty Center Cemetery. A luncheon will follow burial at the church.

Shirley was born on February 2, 1935, in Clarke County, Iowa to William and Goldie (McVey) Routh. She attended school in Clarke County. After graduation she married Ray Richards. From this union, they had 6 children. Shirley was a dedicated wife, mother, and homemaker. She took great pride in her family. Not only was she a caring mother, she was a loving grandmother as well. She loved being with her grandchildren. Later in life she enjoyed traveling the country. Alaska, Florida, and Texas were a few of her favorite places to visit.

Shirley is survived by her children, Larry (Anne) Richards, Gary (Janell) Richards, David (Tena) Richards, Rodney (Shirley) Richards, Jennifer (Sandra) Seaman, and Susan (Norman) Fears; 18 grandchildren, 35 great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.

Shirley was preceded in death by her husband, Ray; eight brothers, two sisters.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Shirley’s name can be made to the Alzheimer’s Association.
