Creston

Linda Denton, 77, of Creston, died Sunday, Nov. 20, 2022, at Homestead of Creston. The family of Linda would like to thank Care Initiatives Hospice for Linda’s care.

A celebration of life service will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 23 at Holy Spirit Catholic Church in Creston. Father Patrick will officiate the service. The service will be live streamed under a link in events at powersfh.com. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery in Creston. Open visitation will be from 2 to 7 p.m. with family receiving friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 23, with a rosary beginning at 7 p.m. at Powers Funeral Home in Creston.

Linda Joyce Denton, was born Feb. 23, 1945, the daughter of Lloyd “Slim” Onen and Helen Loretta (Cronin) Wilson in New Virginia. She graduated from Osceola schools in 1963. Linda later earned her nursing degree from Mercy School of Nursing.

On June 11, 1966, Linda was united in marriage to Robert Francis Denton at St. Bernard’s Catholic Church in Osceola. From this union came two daughters, Laura and Leasa and a son, Robert “Robbie”. They settled in Osceola for some time before moving to a farm in Thayer. At this time Linda worked as a nurse at the Clarke Home County Hospital. She then briefly taught CNA classes at SWCC before working at Creston Nursing and Rehab as director of nursing and finally working at Creston Medical Clinical as Dr. Mansour’s nurse.

Linda loved going to the Chicken Inn and loved traveling to places like the Iowa State Fair, Florida and Arizona. For three years Linda and Bob served as foster parents to eight children. Linda also served on the East Union School Board as president from 1984-1993. She was a member of Holy Spirit Catholic Church of Creston and an Eagles member of Osceola.

Linda is survived by her husband, Robert Denton of Creston; her daughters, Laura (Rich) Baker of West Des Moines and Leasa (Edward) Hoefling of Faucet, Missouri; a sister, Joann Wilson of Osceola and three grandchildren: Ariann Baker of Cedar Rapids, Brielle Baker of West Des Moines and Braden Baker of West Des Moines.

She is preceded in death by her parents; a son, Robert Denton in 2022 and her brother, Jack Wilson.
