Richard Hatcher

New Virginia

Richard Gene Hatcher, son of James Elmer and Anna Marie Louise (Franz) Hatcher was born May 2, 1938 on the family farm in Virginia Township in Warren County, Iowa and passed from this life Sunday, July 3, 2022 at Mercy Hospital Medical Center in Des Moines, Iowa at 84 years of age.

Richard has been a lifetime resident of the New Virginia area. He attended Big Rock Country School before going to New Virginia Schools and graduated from New Virginia High School. Following graduation he served in the Army Reserves for 6 months, he then began working for the Norwalk-Cumming State Bank as a clerk and remained there, working his way to Vice-President, retiring in 2002. Richard was united in marriage to Mary Jean Keller on September 12, 1959 in New Virginia and they were blessed with two children, Lisa and Donald.

Richard was very supportive of the New Virginia Community, he was active with many functions and served as a trustee of the Virginia Manor. Richard was a member of the New Virginia United Methodist Church and was very involved with the building committee of the new church building. He enjoyed raising Angus Cattle and was a member of the Angus Association for several years. Family was Richard’s most important joy, he attended all the functions and activities of his children, grandchildren and was now enjoying the activities of his great grandchildren. Richard was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather and will be greatly missed.

Those relatives who preceded Richard in death were his parents, James and Louise Hatcher, son-in-law, Van Brownlee, brothers, Ward Hatcher and Kenneth Hatcher and his wife Ida Mae, and brother-in-law Duane Felton.

Richard leaves to cherish his memory; wife of 62 years, Mary Hatcher of New Virginia, IA, daughter, Lisa Brownlee of St. Charles, IA, son, Donald (Tamela) Hatcher of New Virginia, IA, grandchildren, Tess (Dillan) Dwyer of Waukee, IA, Brody (Erin) Brownlee of Indianola, IA, Emily (Michael) Mason of Russell, IA, Miller Hatcher and fiancé Nicole of Norwalk, great grandchildren, Breck, Bentleigh, and Lakelynn, sister, Mary Ruth Felton of Johnston, IA as well as other relatives and many friends.

Funeral services will be held at the New Virginia United Methodist Church, Monday July 11, 2022 at 10:30 am with Pastor Paul Burrow officiating.
