Irene Bonnett

Irene Bonnett was born August 25, 1924 in Melrose, Iowa to Joe and Ollie Hollinrake Lahart. She passed away suddenly, Saturday, June 12, 2021 at her home in Osceola, Iowa.

Irene received her education in Monroe County, Iowa and graduated from Melrose High School with the class of 1941. Irene married Harold “Buzz” Bonnett on November 28, 1944 at Sacred heart Catholic Church in Chariton.

They started married life on a farm in Colfax, Iowa, moving to Osceola (Clarke County) in 1953 and farmed until Harold’s death in 1988. Six children were born to this union, Ray, Kayrene, Diane, Steve, Jeff and Tim.

Irene loved to dance, play cards and dominos. Harold and Irene were members of the Osceola Square Dance Club for many years. She enjoyed watching all the Iowa Hawkeye Sports with her son Tim. Irene was a member of the St. Bernared Catholic Church for 68 years. She worked for 31 years as a receptionist for Weight Watchers and 14 years at Furnas Electric.

Preceding her in death were her husband Harold, sons Ray & Tim, her parents, two brothers, James and Joseph (Rose) Lahart, two sisters, Ellen (Glen) Long and Annie ( John) Ryan, and grandchildren Angie Bonnett, Mark Leeper and Jodi Carson.

Irene leaves to cherish his memory; daughter, Kayrene Carson of West Des Moines, IA, daughter, Diane Leeper of Osceola, IA, son, Steve Bonnett of Milo, IA, son, Jeff (Lori) Bonnett of Omaha, NE, grandchildren, Joel and Laura Bonnett, Julianne (Lars) Hem, Chad Carson, Mike Leeper, Amy (Dean) Courtney, Katie and Ashley Leeper, Ryan Bonnett, Madison and Sydney Bonnett, great grandchildren, Brooke Hem, Karli Riggs, Michael Leeper, Kane, Gracee, Tommy, Finn, Ashe Courtney, Kelsey, Carson, Cameron, and Gabriel Leeper, great-great grandchildren, Hudson and Brooklyn Watters, loving companion, Wayne Schaffer, sister-in-law, Elizabeth Bonnett of Osceola as well many nieces, nephews and friends.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Bernard Catholic Church, Wednesday June 16, 2021 at 10 a.m.

Visitation will be Tuesday, with family greeting friends from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Tuesday evening. Rosary will be 7:00 p.m. Tuesday evening at Kale Funeral Home.

Interment will be in the Maple Hill Cemetery.
