Auxiliaries recognize Poppy Day

The women with the Woodburn and Osceola American Legion Auxiliaries will be recognizing National Poppy Day on Saturday, May 27. They will be distributing poppies at Hy-Vee and Fareway from 10 a.m. to noon on Saturday, May 27 or until they run out - just look for the gals in red, white and blue. Local businesses around Osceola also have poppies for distribution.

Additionally, the Woodburn American Legion will be conducting military honors on Monday, May 29, at Bethel Cemetery at 9 a.m. and Woodburn Cemetery at 11 a.m.

In the spring of 1919 among complete devastation, the poppies bloomed in abundance on the battlefields of France where so many of our service men had fallen in battle. Our poppy is an emblem of sacrifice, which was made by our military who gave their lives for our country’s freedom. These memorial red crepe paper poppies are made by hand by disabled veterans in hospitals and poppy workrooms. The disabled service men and women and their families are assisted by our poppy funds. Please help pay tribute to all who died in service to our country by wearing a poppy proudly.

Show your support for a veteran by wearing a poppy this Memorial Day.
