United Methodist Church coat giveaway

The Osceola United Methodist Church is hosting a winter coat drive, with a giveaway 9 a.m. to noon, Saturday, Oct. 29.

This is the first year the United Methodist Church is doing a coat drive. The idea for the drive came after the Sunday School class held a garage sale for people in Haiti affected by a hurricane; the class collected items to send to Haiti.

Afterward, there was a want to do something locally to help out, and a coat drive was decided upon.

The overall goal of the giveaway is to help area children and adults stay warm this winter. Those who come to the giveaway will receive a coat, and hats, gloves, mittens and more may also be available. No identification or information is required.

For those who would like to donate winter items, donations of new or gently used items will be accepted at the church, 130 West Grant St, until noon on Oct. 28.
