After a year’s absence due to the Coronavirus, The First Saturday Seminars return in April over Zoom. A returning popular speaker, Theresa McCormick Liewer of Ankeny will start with a presentation, “Using the tools of Family Search,” beginning noon Saturday, April 3 over Zoom. Theresa is an Advanced Family History Researcher. She is an active volunteer at the Iowa Genealogy Library in Des Moines, the moderator of the Irish Interest Group at the Library and a past president of the Iowa Genealogical Society.
The seminars, held February through November, are an educational genealogy program UCGS added in addition to the regular monthly meetings in 2018. They are open to the public. Each seminar features a special topic given by a presenter with extensive knowledge in genealogy and history. Seminars are a benefit to members at $5 and $10 for non-members. Pre-registration and payment can be made at the Society’s website https://unioncgs.org or through The Roots Seller, the society’s gift shop. Participants should include an email address to receive the Zoom link and information on how to join. For information on upcoming new seminars and monthly programs for the remainder of 2021, see the EVENTS page on the Society’s website and Facebook page.
Beginning April 26, USCG will begin holding monthly membership meetings at the Gibson Memorial Library in Creston as well as over Zoom for those members unable to attend in person. The membership meetings are held on the fourth Monday of the month, January through December. The Zoom Invitation with information and required numbers will be emailed to all current members.
