Supervisors approve wage increase, weed commissioner

Only two of three Clarke County supervisors were present for Monday’s board meeting. Austin Taylor and Dean Robins began the meeting by looking at recommendations for increases in elected officials’ salaries for the 2021-22 budget year.

The recommended increase for Clarke County recorder, treasurer, auditor, sheriff and attorney was 3%. Since the Clarke County supervisors did not take any pay increase this year, the board put forth the recommendation of a 2% increase for the elected officials instead. The motion of a 2% increase passed. Larry Keller, supervisor, was not present to vote.

The board then passed a motion to approve a scheduled maintenance agreement with Exel to do pre-checks of the heating and cooling system at the Clarke County Courthouse before switching to air conditioning in the spring and again before turning the heat back on in the fall.

Sara Whirett was appointed Clarke County Weed Commissioner with a six month salary of $17,564.

“I would like to say that Sara does an awesome job,” said Robins.

The cost for destruction of noxious weeds was approved at $30 per man hour for labor and cutting weeds, $125 per hour for the use of the tractor and mower if needed, 50 cents per mile when the mileage is used for the purpose of destroying weeds.

Clarke County Board of Supervisors meetings are held 9 a.m. Mondays at the Clarke County Courthouse, 100 S. Main St., Osceola. To contact the board, email clarkebos@clarkecountyiowa.org or 641-342-3641.
