Area boys basketball roundup: Clarke rolls to wins, Murray gets first 'W'

Central Decatur 79, East Union 52

AFTON – Central Decatur blew out East Union 79-52 Friday night.

The Cardinals laid it on EU in the first quarter with a 24-17 score, and extended it with a 13-point difference in the second quarter. The Cardinals didn’t let up until the final buzzer on their way to their first win of the season.

Trey Hullinger led in scoring with 23 points. Matthew Boothe posted 16 points and Cauy Masters chipped in nine.

Twelve Central Decatur players scored in the win.

Clarke 62, Chariton 35

OSCEOLA – Clarke rolled past Chariton Friday night in a 62-35 win for the Indians.

The win over the Chargers snaps a 15-game losing streak against Chariton for Clarke, dating back to Jan. 14 2011.

Clarke outscored Chariton in every quarter on its way to the in. A nine-point difference in the second and an 11-point difference in the third quarter gave Clarke a 62-35 lead entering the fourth quarter.

Jack Cooley led in scoring with 15 points. He also had nine rebounds. Nick Neer scored 11 points.

Spruceton Buddenhagen had seven rebounds and nine points.

Murray 56, Twin Cedars 38

BUSSEY – Murray beat Twin Cedars Friday night 56-38 for its first win of the season.

Murray rolled through the first quarter with a 12-3 lead, and extended it into the fourth quarter. With Murray leading 48-20, Twin Cedars made up eight points in an 18-8 quarter, but was behind enough to not sniff Murray’s lead.

Colton Siefkas scored 19 points on 7 of 13 shooting. Brycen Wookey scored 10 points.

Siefkas added eight rebounds, also a team-high. Wookey had five assists and Christian Nevarez had five steals, both team-leading.

Clarke 52, Stanton 50

OSCEOLA – Clarke beat Stanton Tuesday, Dec. 1, beating Stanton in a narrow 52-50 game.

The Indians had a 19-12 third quarter to take a five-point lead, but led Stanton creep back in through the fourth quarter. The Indians held off the Vikings for the win, which was their first of the season.

Dalton Stubbe had 18 points in the win. Cole White posted 13 rebounds with seven points scored. White also blocked three shots.

Lamoni 54, Murray 36

LAMONI – Murray fell on the road to open its season against Lamoni in a 54-36 contest.

Murray held a close game through the first quarter, trailing 13-9, before Lamoni grabbed a 22-12 lead at halftime. Lamoni extended its lead, outscoring Murray 32-24 in the second half.

Colton Siefkas had 12 points and 11 rebounds for a double-double. Jace Rodecker also had double-digit rebounds, grabbed 12 boards.
