According to an Osceola Fire report, the fire was in a heating/cooling roof unit in the grocery department.
"Our working theory is the heat on that unit may have kicked on in the early morning for the first time this season," said OVFD Chief Byron Jimmerson.
Dust collected on coils can often cause smoke and even enough to set off smoke detectors. In some rare instances the dust can ignite enough to cause a small fire. Fortunately these units are designed well enough to contain this type of situations. Furthermore in the event the fire would spread Walmart is a sprinkled building. Building sprinklers are extremely important to prevent spread of fire and rapid spread of fire that can cause injury to occupants.
