Area football roundup: Murray dominates in win, CD falls just short

Murray 64, Mormon Trail 14

MURRAY – Murray (3-2) steamrolled Mormon Trail (2-3) Friday night, winning 64-14.

Twenty eight-unanswered points in the first quarter set the tone and gave Murray the clear edge for the rest of the game as it poured it on. A 22-point third quarter while already up 29 put Mormon Trail away for good in the win.

Zack Belden passed for three touchdowns, throwing for 49 yards. He had 91 yards on the ground and four scores by way of the run for seven all-purpose scores.

Chance Lecy had 95 yards rushing to lead the team. Christian Nevarez and Colton Siefkas had receiving scores.

Wyatt Gannon had 9 1/2 tackles, seven solo, to lead the team. Chase and Logan Werner combined for a sack, the only of the game for Murray.

Murray had seven takeaways. Aydan Dinham, Chance Lecy, Brycen Wookey and Jace Rodecker had fumble recoveries with Kace Patton and Christian Nevarez (two) picking off Mormon Trail’s quarterback.

Interstate 35 6, Central
Decatur 0

LEON – Central Decatur (1-4) came up just short against Insterstate 35 (4-1) in a low-scoring 6-0 game that saw overtime Friday night.

Interstate 35 scored a touchdown in the extra frame to take the 6-0 lead en route to the final score. Jace Bedwell found the end zone on one of his 11 carries to propel the Roadrunners to the win. Bedwell finished with 29 yards rushing and one touchdown on the ground.

Central Decatur’s Matthew Boothe threw for 102 yards on 7 of 31 passing with two interceptions. Trey Hullinger had two receptions for 70 yards. Tyke Hullinger led the team with 10 tackles, eight were solo. Jack Scrivner and Tegan Carson each had 1 1/2 sacks. Kale Rockhold had one sack, and Evahn Wallace had 1/2 a sack.
