Area cross country roundup: CD dominates

CORNING – Central Decatur took home strong finishes at Southwest Valley’s home meet on a tough course Thursday.

The Class 2A No. 9 boys team finished in second wth 57 points, behind only Winterset’s 45 points.

Class 2A No. 5 Will Gillis dominated the course, taking first place with a 16:51.6. Class 2A No. 27 Tyson McDole finished in seventh place (18:35.1). Vinent Carcamo was the third scoring runner for Central Decatur, coming in 16th place with a 19:30.1.

“(Class) 3A Winterset ended the boys winning streak, but the team still ran strong,” Central Decatur head coach Reece Tedford said.

On the girls’ side, Central Decatur finished in third place with 84 points, trailing Creston’s 51 points and Winterset’s 32 points.

The top-three Cardinal girls finished in a cluster. Hadley Bell took 11th (25:53.1), Anniston Jones finished in 12th (23:58.7) and Harrisen Bevan took 13th (24:02.3).

“High school girls team is really starting to emerge with a strong cluster of 3 medalist,” Tedford said. “... Girls team finished very strong third behind (Class) 3A schools Winterset and Creston.”
