Area volleyball roundup: CD struggles, Murray takes one win at Twin Cedars

Decatur 0

LEON – Central Decatur (3-7) fell to Lamoni (5-0) 3-0 Monday.

The Demons rolled to the match win, taking set one 25-19, set two 25-13 and set three 25-9.

Mara Dykes had 10 assists. Carlee Hamilton had eight digs while River Hamaker had three blocks.

Pleasantville 2, Murray 1

BUSSEY – Murray (3-2) fell to Pleasantville 2-1 at the Twin Cedars tournament Saturday.

The Lady Mustangs took the first set 22-20 before falling 21-14 and 15-9.

Jayda Chew had nine assists while Teryn Shields recorded four kills. Kinzee Eggers had five blocks.

Ankeny
Christian 2, Murray 1

BUSSEY – Murray lost to Ankeny Christian Academy 2-1 at the Twin Cedars tournament Saturday.

The Eagles and Lady Mustangs split the first two sets, with Ankeny Christian winning the first set 21-11 and Murray taking the second 21-9. The Eagles edged out a set-three win 17-15.

Chew had five aces on 19 successful serve attempts. Twila Barber and Chloe Church each had two digs.

Murray 2, Twin Cedars 0

BUSSEY – Murray knocked off Twin Cedars at the Twin Cedars tournament Saturday.

Murray took both sets 21-11 to roll to a win.

Eggers had seven kills while Chew had 12 assists.

Lenox 3, Central Decatur 0

LEON – Central Decatur dropped its match 3-0 to Lenox Thursday.

The Tigers edged out a win in the first two sets, 25-23 and 25-20, before a 25-13 set win to seal the match.

Hamaker had a game-high nine kills. Hamilton had nine digs, and Malloree Horn was 14-for-14 on serves with two aces.

Murray 3, Ankeny Christian 1

ANKENY – Murray picked up its first win of the season with a 3-1 win over Ankeny Christian Thursday.

Murray edged out a 25-23 win in the first set before the Eagles took the second set 26-24. Murray stormed back to take the final two sets 25-20 and 25-22.

Eggers and Barber each had nine kills. Chew had 22 assists while Emma Decker had five assists. Abbe Baumfalk, Church and Barber each had eight digs.

Pleasantville 3, Clarke 0

OSCEOLA – Clarke (2-4) fell in three sets to Pleasantville at the Lady Indians’ home triangular.

Clarke kept the first set close at 25-23 before Pleasantville took a 25-20 win in set two and 25-19 win in set three.

Emma Bolton had 14 assists while Josey Dunbar had seven kills. Kaitlyn Halsband was 17-for-17 from serve.

Saydel 3,
Clarke 2

OSCEOLA – Clarke fell just short to Saydel 3-2 Tuesday, Sept. 8.

The Lady Indians took the first two sets 25-13 and 25-12. Saydel responded by winning the next three sets 26-24, 25-22 and 15-7.

Sophia Hicks and Dunbar had six kills each. Bolton also had 10 aces on 27 of 28 serving.

East Union 3, Central
Decatur 2

AFTON – East Union fell to Pride of Iowa opponent Central Decatur 3-2 Tuesday evening.

The Eagles won second set 31-29 and the third set 25-20. Central Decatur won the first set 25-22, fourth set 25-23 and fifth set 15-13.

Hamaker had two blocks and eight kills. Dykes had 17 assists. Lyndsey Dale was 26-for-29 on serve attempts with three aces.
