Area baseball roundup: Central Decatur knocks off POI rival, Clarke wins two straight

Decatur 7, Nodaway
Valley 6

LEON – Nodaway Valley fell 7-6 in eight innings to Central Decatur Friday.

The middle innings were an offensive explosion for both sides. Central Decatur scored one in the third, two in the fourth and three in the third. Nodaway Valley scored two in the third and fourth innings and one in the fifth and sixth innings to keep the game tied at six.

Central Decatur scored a run in the top of the eighth inning to scratch a lead in extra innings.

Michel Evertsen tallied three hits with a double and two RBIs. Evertsen also pitched 7 2/3 innings, striking out seven.

Murray 4, Melcher-Dallas 1

MURRAY – Murray took a late lead to knock off Melcher-Dallas 4-1 Friday.

Melcher-Dallas took a 1-0 lead in the first. Murray tied the game in the fourth and tacked on three more in the sixth to take a lead.

Ryan Krpan tallied the only run for the Mustangs. Steven Krpan pitched five innings, allowing one earned run and striking out five.

Southeast Warren 23, Central
Decatur 21

LEON – Central Decatur lost to Southeast Warren 23-21 Thursday in an eight-inning offensive shootout.

The Warhawks scored five in the first two innings, with the Cardinals tying the game at five in the bottom of the second. Four more runs extended SEW’s lead to 9-6. SEW scored eight in the top of the fifth, but Central Decatur scored nine to cut the deficit to 17-15. The scoring continued to tie the game at 21 after seven. In the eighth inning, SEW scored two to end the game.

The Cardinals had 10 players score. TJ Fallis and Devin Adams each scored three runs. Tyke Hullinger tallied three RBIs. David Walker, Adams and Evertsen each recorded two RBIs.

Lamoni 16, Murray 0 (4)

LAMONI – Murray lost to Lamoni 16-0 in four innings Thursday.

Lamoni scored five in the first, nine in the second and two in the third inning. Murray’s offense struggled, tallying one hit in the loss.

Andrew Roe was the lone Mustang to record a base hit.

Clarke 9, PCM 2

MONROE – Clarke beat PCM 9-2 Thursday.

After three innings, the game was tied 2-2. Clarke responded with five runs in the top of the fourth and two more in the top of the fifth.

Will Smith recorded two hits with four RBIs. Jayden Giza also had two hits. Josue Torres pitched all seven innings, allowing two earned runs and three strikeouts.

Central
Decatur 14, Melcher-Dallas 2 (5)

MELCHER-DALLAS – Central Decatur beat Melcher-Dallas 14-2 in five innings Wednesday.

Central Decatur’s offense came alive in the middle innings. The Cardinals scored three in the third, four in the fourth and five in the fifth.

TJ Fallis had three RBIs and one run without recording a hit. He walked twice. Boothe drove in two runs on two hits.

Clarke 10, Twin Cedars 5

BUSSEY – Clarke beat Twin Cedars 10-5 Wednesday.

Twin Cedars had a 2-1 lead after three innings with the Indians scoring in the third. The Sabers added another run in the fifth until Clarke scored three in the sixth and six in the seventh to negate Twin Cedars’ three runs in the final three innings.

Zethann May struck out nine batters in four innings pitched. Dalton Stubbe recorded two hits, one triple and two runs.

Central
Decatur 6, Wayne 2

WAYNE – Central Decatur beat Wayne 6-2 Tuesday night.

The Cardinals scored three in the first inning. Wayne scored two in the third, but Central Decatur added one in the fifth and two in the seventh.

David Walker recorded three hits with three RBIs. Evertsen and Tate Hill combined for seven innings and seven strikeouts.

Ankeny
Christian 17, Murray 1 (5)

MURRAY – Murray lost 17-1 in five innings to Ankeny Christian Tuesday.

The Eagles opened the game with three runs before adding seven in the second inning. Ankeny Christian added seven more in the fourth and one in the fifth. Murray scored once in the bottom of the fifth.

Lane Cruickshank tallied two hits for the Mustangs. Jadyn Patton allowed six walks and nine earned runs.
