Herbert Dean Fitzgerald, son of Arthur Fitzgerald and Maxine (Fulmer) Fitzgerald was born January 8, 1939 in Madison Township in Clarke County, Iowa and passed from this life Tuesday, April 14, 2020 at his home in rural Clarke County, Iowa at 81 years of age.

Herb attended country school and graduated from Truro High School.  He served in the U.S. Army from March of 1963 to December of 1964, stationed for a time in Germany.  Following his honorable discharge he returned home and attended Agriculture College.  He was united in marriage to Sharon Lee Oberender on September 9, 1966 at the United Methodist Church in Truro, Iowa.  They bought a farm just down the road from Herb’s parents and have farmed there ever since.  Herb and Sharon enjoyed vacationing along the Niobrara National Scenic River near Ainsworth, Nebraska.

Herb enjoyed farming and being outdoors with his livestock.  Herb never knew a stranger.  He enjoyed visiting with everyone.  He was an avid reader.  Herb was a former township trustee, former county zoning board of adjustment, and former ASCS township committee member.

Those relatives who preceded Herbert in death were his wife, Sharon Lee Fitzgerald, brother, Larry Fitzgerald, parents, Maxine and Arthur Fitzgerald, and an infant son, Adam Lee Fitzgerald.

Herbert leaves to cherish his memory; son, Alan Fitzgerald and his wife Terri of Truro, IA, grandson, Daniel Fitzgerald of Truro, IA, brother, Richard Fitzgerald of Woodburn, IA as well as other relatives and many friends.

Open visitation will be Tuesday, April 28, 2020 we will be following the CDC and State guidelines and not having more then 8 people in the building at a time and following social distancing guidelines.

Interment will follow in the Field Cemetery.
