Larry Ver Streegt

Osceola

Larry Gene Ver Steegt, son of John Jacob Ver Steegt and Catherine Irene (Smith) Ver Steegt was born January 22, 1950 in Des Moines, Iowa and passed from this life Tuesday, March 3, 2020 at the Clarke County Hospital in Osceola, Iowa at 70 years of age.

Larry grew up in Des Moines and was united in marriage to Cheryl Cox on August 22, 1968. He lived in Leon and moved to Osceola in the mid 70s. Larry worked for Butter Nut Bread and Old Home Bread on a delivery routes. Larry married Barbara Jean McNeal on October 19, 1996 and they made their home in Osceola.

Larry started bread routes for Butter Nut Bread and as years passed the company sold to Old Home Bread and Sara Lee. Larry built his area to 7 routes and he worked 27 years as route supervisor when he retired. Retirement was short lived and Larry went to work for HyVee and was in the bakery for 6 years. The opportunity of owning his own business became available with Bimbo Foods. He built his independent bread operator business to 3 routes, having 3 devoted route drivers. Due to health Larry sold back the company to Bimbo Foods. Larry was an out going and hard working person.

Larry was a very active member of the Osceola First Baptist Church. He was song leader for over 20 years. He loved to sing, he sang with Larry and the Messengers for 12 years and they sang gospel at the Iowa State Fair for 18 years. Larry and Barb ran B&B Guest home for many years in Osceola, opening their home to many guests.

Larry found time to enjoy his hobbies of working on small engines and small garden tractors. He played golf, collected Delft Blue Pottery, and did woodworking. Larry was a big sports fan, especially the Kansas City Chiefs. He enjoyed having family and friends around and music played.

The very most important part of his life was the enjoyment of all of his grandchildren. He would always try to help guide the grandchildren with lessons of life. All of his grandchildren worshipped their Grandpa. He will be greatly missed.

Those relatives who preceded Larry in death were his parents, John and Catherine Ver Steegt and brother-in-law, Carol Kimm.

Larry leaves to cherish his memory, his wife Barbara Jean Ver Steegt of Osceola, IA, daughter, Julie Ver Steegt of Clive, IA, daughter, Selena (Eric) Humphrey of Osceola, IA, daughter, Heather Selsor of Newton, IA, son, Travis (Kristina) Ver Steegt of Ames, IA, son, Eric (Hilary) Selsor of Osceola, IA, 10 grandchildren, Dwight Humphrey, Paitin Burroughs, Seth Burroughs, Jacob Ver Steegt, Lincoln Ver Steegt, Chasen Selsor, Chelsea Selsor, Chaley Selsor, Kayden Ludington, and Aleena Fry, brother, Dale (Janice) Ver Steegt of Springfield, MO, sister, Kathlene Kimm of Numa, IA, sister, Linda (Fred) Cox of Leon, IA, as well as other relatives and many friends.

Services will be held at Kale Funeral Home in Osceola, Monday March 9, 2020 at 10:30 am with Chaplin Joshua Cox officiating.

Visitation will be Sunday, March 8, 2020, with family greeting friends from 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm at Kale Funeral Home in Osceola, Iowa.

Interment will be in the Decatur City Cemetery at 2:00 PM Monday
