Area boys basketball roundup: Clarkes picks up second win, Murray falls to No. 9 Martensdale-St. Marys

Pleasantville 59, Interstate 35 33

PLEASANTVILLE – Interstate 35 dropped a 59-33 contest to Pleasantville Monday.

The Roadrunners were in the game after the first quarter, leading 11-10, but Pleasantville put up 19 in the points during the second quarter to I-35's three.

A 21-point third quarter for Pleasantville put the game out of reach for the Roadrunners.

Mitch Harken scored 31 points on 13 of 17 shooting from the field. Tagen Douma and Mason Scheve scored eight points each.

Martensdale-St. Marys 91, Murray 56

MURRAY – Then-Class 1A No. 9 Martensdale-St. Marys took down Murray 91-56 Friday.

The Mustangs kept up with Martensdale's scoring attack, keeping the score at a manageable 38-26 deficit during halftime. Thirty points in the second half weren't enough for the Blue Devils' high octane offense, putting up 53 points in the final two frames.

Reece Held scored 29 points with four assists and three steals. Colton Siefkas put up 10 points of his own, to account for the Mustangs' other double-digit scorer.

Clarke 77, Interstate 35 72

TRURO – Clarke picked up its second win of the season with a 77-72 overtime victory over Interstate 35 Tuesday.

Clarke took a 33-30 lead at halftime. I-35 edged out the Indians 12-11 in the third quarter, and a 23-21 Roadrunner advantage in the fourth put things even at 65.

Clarke outscored I-35 12-7 in free basketball to take the win.

Clarke's Umar Bulis led the charge with 26 points and grabbed 10 rebounds for a double-double. Taylor Henry and Dalton Stubbe put up 16 points each.

Murray 69, Mormon Trail 54

GARDEN GROVE – Murray beat Mormon Trail Tuesday night 69-54 for its fourth straight win of the season.

The Mustangs opened the game with a 24-9 first quarter and never looked back, despite Mormon Trail keeping with Murray's scoring for the next three quarters.

Reece Held scored 26 points, going 5 of 9 from the field, scoring his 1,000th career point in the process. Jace Rodecker scored 14 points while Colton Siefkas scored 13. Keegan Johnson scored 11 as the last person in double-digit scoring.

"We had a great first quarter and [were] able to jump out 24-9," said Murray head coach Darin Wookey. "We had several guys play well tonight. ... Tonight, Reece Held had a great game scoring 26 points and going over 1,000 in his career."

Earlham 65, I-35 50

EARLHAM – Interstate 35 fell to Earlham 65-50 Tuesday, Feb. 11.

The Roadrunners trailed 35-28 at halftime. I-35 allowed 19 points in the third quarter while scoring nine. I-35 outscored Earlham 14-11 in the final frame, but it wasn't enough to make a comeback.
