Area boys basketball roundup: Central Decatur drops fourth game of season

VAN METER – Central Decatur fell 61-33 to Van Meter for its fourth loss of the season Monday.

The Cardinals offense sputtered, scoring 10 points in the first half. Van Meter rolled, putting up 35 of its own. CD’s offense picked up in the second half with 23 points, but Van Meter put the game out of reach early.

Cole Pedersen scored 12 points and grabbed six rebounds. Michel Evertsen put up 11 points with five assists.

Earlham 70, Interstate 35 38

TRURO – Interstate 35 fell to Earlham 70-38 Monday night.

Earlham took a 37-16 lead at halftime. The Roadrunners put up 19 points in the second half, but Earlham’s offense was too much, putting up 33 points of its own.

Carter Bussanmas scored 17 points and grabbed nine rebounds. Daniel Jurgensen and Kale Day scored seven points each. Day grabbed nine rebounds.

Pleasantville 81, Clarke 67

PLEASNTVILLE – Clarke fell on the road 81-67 to Pleasantville Monday.

Pleasantville took the lead from the jump with a 26-0 first quarter and never let up, scoring double-digits in each quarter. Clarke bounced back with 24 points in the second quarter, 18 in the third and 25 in the final frame, but didn’t recover from the start.

Murray 73, Melcher-Dallas 50

MURRAY – Murray picked up its second consecutive win with a 73-50 victory over Melcher-Dallas Monday.

Murray was on top from the first quarter, outscoring Melcher-Dallas 24-16 in the first quarter and 44-22 in the first half. The Mustangs put up 29 in the second half to extend its lead.

Jace Rodecker scored 20 points on 10 of 13 shooting from the field. Colton Siefkas put up 17 points and grabbed 10 rebounds for a double-double.

Central Decatur 54, Nodaway Valley 48

GREENFIELD – Central Decatur edged out Nodaway Valley on the road 54-48 Friday.

Going into halftime, the Cardinals led 22-19. CD’s defense kept Nodaway Valley to seven points in the third quarter to extend its lead. The Wolverines put up 22 points in the fourth, but CD’s 18 point final frame was enough to put the lead out of reach.

Pedersen scored 24 points and grabbed 16 rebounds for a double-double. Kolby Hewlett was the other double-digit scorer with 12 points.

Albia 65,
Clarke 28

OSCEOLA – Clarke dropped a home game against Albia 65-28 Friday.

The Indians trailed 26-17 at halftime. Clarke’s offense struggled to get going in the second half, scoring 11 points to Albia’s 39.

Dalton Stubbe put up 11 points with three 3-pointers. Taylor Henry and Umar Bulis put up six points each.

Murray 58, Diagonal 49

DIAGONAL – Murray toppled Diagonal on the road 58-49 Friday night.

The Maroons took an 18-10 lead in the first quarter, but Murray stormed back with a 20-10 second quarter to take a 30-28 lead at halftime.

The second half was controlled by the Mustangs, outscoring Diagonal 18-8 in the third quarter and keeping even with the Maroons at 10 in the final frame.

Klommhaus scored 20 points for Diagonal. Skyler Stamps put up 11 points, going 3 of 6 from the 3-point line.

Murray’s Jace Rodecker scored 19 points and grabbed 11 rebounds for a double-double. Reece Held put up 18 points.

Lamoni 64, Murray 53

LAMONI – Murray fell after a late Lamoni run in a 64-53 matchup Thursday.

The Mustangs trailed by six at halftime, keeping the game at a manageable distance. Murray cut the lead by two after a 15-13 third quarter, but Lamoni’s late 24-18 fourth quarter put the game out of reach.

Siefkas scored 16 points and Held put up 15 points with six assists.

Woodward Academy 68, Interstate 35 50

TRURO – Interstate 35 fell 68-50 at home to Woodward Academy Thursday.

The Roadrunners fell behind early, putting up 17 points in the first half to trail 40-17 at halftime. I-35’s offense picked up in the second half, scoring 33 points.

Day scored 16 points with two blocks. Sam Cox rounded out double-digit scoring with 13 points.

Bedford 66, Clarke 53

BEDFORD – Clarke lost its Thursday game with Bedford 66-53.

Clarke jumped out ahead after the first quarter 20-15 and lead 29-28 at halftime. Bedford’s offense came alive in the second half with 38 points while the Indians scored 26.

Casey Kindred scored 14 points, shooting 4 of 6 from the 3-point line.

Central Decatur 72, Bedford 69

BEDFORD – Central Decatur picked up a 72-69 road win Tuesday.

Things were tight after the first quarter as Bedford led 19-18. CD took a 35-31 lead at halftime. Consistency was the factor that propelled the Cardinals, scoring 18 and 19 in the final two frames.

Matthew Boothe put up 16 points. Trey Hullinger scored 15 while Evertsen and Pedersen scored 14 and grabbed seven rebounds each.

Eddyville-Blakesburg-Fremont 74, Clarke 62

EDDYVILLE – Clarke fell to Eddyville-Blakesburg-Fremont 74-62 Tuesday night.

EBM edged out a one point lead at halftime, 35-34. Clarke put up 28 points in the second half, but EBM’s 28-point third quarter was an offensive explosion the Indians didn’t keep up with.

Bulis scored 27 points on 12 of 18 shooting with 10 rebounds for a double-double.
