Clarke puts two on all-district first team

Clarke was represented well on the Class 2A all-district 8 team last week, putting two players on the first team.

Offensive lineman Spruceton Buddenhagen was selected to the first team. As a blocker for Clarke’s tricky running offense, he helped the Indians tally 2,433 yards of offense and 23 touchdowns.

On defense Buddenhagen tallied 26 1/2 tackles, three coming for a loss.

Chris Carson was one of four running backs selected to the all-district first team.

Before a season-ending injury, Carson was second on the team in rushing yards with 643. He averaged 7.3 yards per carry and scored seven times.

On the second team Jackson Hoag was selected as an offensive lineman, joining Buddenhagen as Clarke’s second offensive lineman selected for all-district.

On defense, Jake Smith was selected as second team defensive lineman and Tanner Fry was selected as second team defensive back.

Smith had a team leading 42 stops with 10 coming for a loss. He had two solo sacks.

Fry posted 21 1/2 tackles two interceptions.

Editor's note: In print it was omitted that Alejandro Davis made second team defense as a linebacker.

It was also omitted the Indians put three on the honorable mention list. Harley Leeps, Fani Fry and Sam Cooley were named as honorable mentions, according to head coach Duane Matthess.
