Former Interstate 35 football player Mason Cassady looks on from the sideline during Iowa State's game against University of Iowa Saturday afternoon.
Cassady was a former running back and defensive back for the Roadrunners. Before graduating last spring, Cassady hauled off for 1,377 yards rushing in his final season with 18 rushing scores. He averaged 7.8 yards per carry.
Cassady also intercepted four passes, and posted 28 1/2 tackles in his senior campaign.
His impressive play earned him an all-state second team selection at running back in 2018 and earned him the district offensive player of the year selection in 2018.
Cassady joined Iowa State as a prefered walk-on this fall.
The Hawkeyes won the annual 'CyHawk Series' 18-17. Cassady, a freshman defensive back, did not dress for the Cyclones.
