Marilyn Jean Cook

Marilyn Jean Cook, age 88, of Van Wert died at her home on Sept. 2, 2019. Funeral services were held 10:30 a.m. Sept. 5 at the Slade-O’Donnell Funeral Home in Leon. Pastor Dwayne Henrichs officiated. Burial was in the Van Wert Cemetery.

Marilyn Jean Cook, daughter of Clifford Paul and Dorothy Fern (Haley) Hainline, was born April 17, 1931, in Ringgold County. Marilyn grew up and attended school in the Thayer and Afton area.

Marilyn was united in marriage to Richard William Cook April 17, 1948, in Mount Ayr. They started their married life in Afton, then Grand River then moved to their farm north of Van Wert.

She was a member of the Van Wert United Methodist Church, the Van Wert Lioness Club, and the ladies’ group, Round Table.

Survivors include her children: Dick Jr. (Shirley) Cook, Dan (Carol) Cook, Doug Cook, Diane (Dean) Allen, Debbie (Jim) Whistler and Donna (Rod) Norman, all of Van Wert, Doris (Gary) Loy of Murray, Shad (Lesley) Cook of Leon and Todd Cook of Van Wert; nine grandchildren; great-grandchildren; great-great-grandchildren; brothers: Gary (Kathy) Hainline of Leon, Ted (Carolyn) Hainline of Lovilia, Avis Hainline of Creston, Cherri Hainline of Osceola and Pat Smith of Afton; brother- and sister-in-law, Jim (Donella) Cook of Creston; nieces and nephews; and other relatives and friends.

Preceding her in death were her parents; husband; great-granddaughter Madison Cook; and brothers: Lyndell, Charles “Chuck”, Larry and Terry Hainline.
