Marilyn Jeanne Lewis Foster was born June 9, 1925, to Harold Harvey and Hazel (Griffin) Lewis at Lewis Springs in Lacelle. Marilyn grew up in Clarke County and attended country schools until she began high school. There were no buses at that time, so during the week, she lived with families in Osceola and at other times, she shared apartments with her brother George and sister Alice June. She enjoyed school and excelled in her classes. Marilyn participated in many activities with special interests in music and sports. Marilyn was a great reader of all subjects, often reading at least one book a week. While attending school and after graduation in 1942, she worked at Clarke County State Bank.

On  Sept. 13, 1943, she married her high school sweetheart, Daniel Huston Foster in Spokane, Washington. Dan was in the service at that time, so Marilyn returned to Osceola and continued working for the bank. Dan and Marilyn were the parents of a son, David and a daughter, Mary.

After he was discharged, Dan returned to Osceola and in 1947, was selected to join the Iowa Highway Patrol. They were posted in Atlantic, Greenfield, Des Moines and Indianola. While in Indianola, Marilyn served as deputy treasurer for Warren County. Dan was the first pilot of the Air Wing. In 1966, he was promoted to Lieutenant and became the Commander of Post No. 2 in Osceola. After several years of moving around central Iowa, they finally returned home. Marilyn again worked for Clarke County State Bank and became head teller.

Marilyn was a board member and treasurer of Clarke County Senior Housing. She was a member of the Clarke County Historical Society and the Clarke County Genealogy Society where she served several years as the treasurer.
