After his Navy retirement they made their home in Connecticut, Van Wert, Moss Point, Mississippi, and finally Gautier, Mississippi, where she lived for 28 years working at Sears then later retiring from JCPenny’s. After Finley’s death in 1978, Darlene enjoyed many trips traveling around the world with friends.
In 1992, Darlene moved back to Osceola to take care for her mother. She held a long time membership with the Osceola Eagles Auxiliary where she held different officer titles as well as secretary for the auxiliary for many years. She volunteered doing various jobs to help raise money for the auxiliary such as bingo lunches, but her most favorite was to sit at the door during Saturday night dances.
