Wayne Boor

On January 17, 2022, Wayne Arthur Boor, age 83, passed peacefully in his home surrounded by his loved ones. Wayne was born to Arthur Eugene Boor and Alice Exene Switzer on November 2, 1938, in Osceola, Iowa residing in Weldon, Iowa.

Wayne moved from Weldon, Iowa to Murray, Iowa when he was 9 years old. He attended country school just up the road from the farm and then finished his schooling at Murray Community School and graduated in 1957. Wayne started farming with his father, Art, when he was 16 years old and joined the Air National Guard straight out of high school. Wayne enjoyed playing guitar and singing with his sister, Janice. They had the opportunity to play on a radio show in Des Moines. He ran his family’s farm for 67 years. Wayne had a love for animals and loved caring for them. Farming was his passion. Wayne believed that our farming practices should always keep in mind future generations. It was Wayne’s belief that we are temporary caregivers for the land and that we need to leave things in better condition than what we started with.

During Wayne’s adult years he had an interest in planes, trains, and trees when he was not farming. During the 70s and 80s Wayne spent a good amount of time collecting and building model trains and working on a model train room in the basement of his home which contained mountains, tracks, bridges, tunnels and much more. Later in life Wayne enjoyed learning and researching trees and landscaping his 3-acre yard.

Wayne always had a passion for morel mushrooms and hunting for them every spring. The entire family participated and spent endless hours over the years in pursuit of them. All his children enjoyed spending time with him in the timber and the pursuit of the mighty morels.

Wayne married Donna Lucas of Winterset, Iowa on October 22, 1961. They were blessed with four children: Chris, Marlan, Lori, and Stacy. Wayne was loved and his legacy lives on through his family. He is survived by his sister Janice Ward of Wake Forest, North Carolina; his wife Donna Boor of Osceola, Iowa; his four children Chris Boor and wife Sheila of Osceola, Iowa; Marlan Boor and wife Christy of Osceola, Iowa; Lori Rice of Murray, Iowa and Stacy Dick and husband David of Mexico, Missouri. Six grandchildren: Kayla Weeks and husband Anthony of Lorimor; Maggie Bell and husband Brandon of Lamoni, Iowa; Abigail Dick of Mexico, Missouri, Nathaniel Dick of Mexico, Missouri; Eric Boor and wife Mikala of Osceola, Iowa; and Ryan Boor of Osceola, Iowa. Eight great grandchildren: Talon, Presley, Elijah and Sabastian Weeks of Lorimor, Iowa; Lucas and Brooklyn Bell of Lamoni, Iowa; Jace and Paisley Boor of Osceola, Iowa.

Wayne was preceded in death by his parents Arthur Eugene Boor and Alice Exene Arnold and his brother-in-law Warren Ward of Wake Forest, North Carolina.

A celebration of Life with family and friends will be held Sunday February 20, 2022 at 2:30 p.m. at the Murray Community Center and family will have food and fellowship from 1-3 p.m. February 20, 2022 at the Community Center.
