Holiday Brilliance returns with ‘Hometown Holiday’ theme

Osceola Chamber Main Street’s annual Holiday Brilliance is scheduled for 4-8 p.m. Saturday on the Osceola square.

The recent snow storm this past weekend, which dropped 16 inches of snow on the Osceola area, has not affected any plans for this weekend’s event. OCMS Executive Director Ashleigh Eckels said if there is another snow storm or rain on Saturday, the rain date for the event is Saturday, Dec. 8.

Saturday’s event is the first Holiday Brilliance Eckels has planned as executive director. This year’s theme is “Hometown Holiday.”

The theme applies to both the lighted parade and the window displays along the Osceola square.

The lighted parade begins at 5:30 p.m. Saturday and Santa Claus will be at the Santa House located on the square before and after the lighted parade.

Eckels said the guidelines for entries into the parade are simple.

“The more lights the better,” she said. “We have awards for best use of lights, best theme and people’s choice.”

A vendor fair is also being held from 4 to 8 p.m. at Osceola Senior Center. In addition, CCOPS is hosting holiday games on the square and will be handing out goodie bags from 4 to 6 p.m. There will also be entertainment on the bandstand in the square all night.

According to Eckels, a majority of the businesses around the square will be open until 8 p.m.

Entries for the children’s coloring contest, which were handed out to Clarke and Murray students, should be turned into sponsoring businesses on Saturday, as well. There are 10 businesses participating in the children’s coloring contest.

Eckels is looking forward to seeing “the square be filled with families and people checking out all the local businesses and the parade.”
