Aviation day

“In the summer of 1912 an Aviation Day was held at Osceola. On the brick paving in a tent on the north side of the square there was an airplane for people to look at. Longtime Osceola resident, teacher and history buff Melvin Goeldner remembered attending the event. He stated he was not sure what made him feel so wise at a young age of fourteen but he spent some time explaining features of the plane to his father and brother Leslie not realizing a girl about his age had been standing behind them.

At what was probably the close of his lecture the girl said to him, “You think you’re smart but you’re nothing but a sassy boy.” Her reaction startled him. He wished he had asked her name. Even though when he was the age of 94, he thought she might still be living and he could thank her for the lesson she gave him on humility.”
