Farlow, White running for county auditor

Incumbent Janice White is running against Sarah Jo Farlow in the election of Clarke County auditor.

The election is Tuesday, Nov. 8.

Janice M. White

Tell me about yourself/background.

I have lived and worked in Clarke County all of my life. I am married to Ed White, and we live on a farm in Liberty Township. We have three married children: Ryan (Heather) White, Angie (Carl) Ellis and Donnie (Carolyn) White. We have five grandchildren: Seth, Lauren, Reid, Levi and Addison.

I have served as your Clarke County auditor for the past four years and as deputy auditor for the previous 12 years (eight as first-deputy auditor).

Why are you running for this position?

I have enjoyed the challenges of the auditor’s office and serving the public. I feel the county will benefit from my knowledge, experience, professional manner and ability to carry out the many duties that our office is required to perform.

What makes you the best candidate for the job?

The auditor is the commissioner of elections and the county financial officer. Some of the other duties of the auditor are real estate and taxation manager, county registrar of voters, payroll and human resource manager, accounts payable, budget director, overseer of county plats and clerk to board of supervisors.

It is a big responsibility and I feel having 16 years of experience in the auditor’s office makes me the strongest choice for Clarke County auditor. I am dedicated and committed to getting the job done efficiently and accurately.

If elected, what goals do you have planned in relation to the position?

If re-elected, I plan to continue running the auditor’s office with the same friendly and professional manner as I have during the past four years.

Most of the duties of the auditor’s office are complex with possible financial consequences to the county if mistakes are made. It is my mission to use my knowledge and experience to prevent this from happening. I have successfully accomplished this the past four years, with the help of quality staff.

If re-elected, I will continue to dedicate the time and effort to successfully fulfill my duties as your Clarke County auditor.

Sarah Farlow

Tell me about yourself/background.

I graduated college in 2001 with my associate degree in accounting/business management. I started working for the Des Moines Register for two years where I did auditing, billing and accounts payable.

In 2003, I started working for the Clarke County Auditor’s Office working with real estate, accounts payable, financial and budget reports and many other items related to the office. I worked for the auditor’s office until 2013. I am currently working as a pharmacy technician in Wal-Mart.

Why are you running for this position? What makes you the best candidate for the job?

I am running for the position of Clarke County auditor to serve the residents of Clarke County to the best of my ability with the experience I received from working in the auditor’s office for 10 years where I worked with every aspect of the auditor’s office and worked with each office as needed to better serve the residents of Clarke County.

If elected, what goals do you have planned in relation to the position?

If elected, my goal for the auditor’s office is to make sure we are compliant with the code of Iowa and to make sure that the residents of Clarke County have access to the information they need in a friendly and knowledgeable environment.
