Vicki Goshon, president of the Learning Disabilities Association of Iowa, has announced Anne Murr, coordinator of the Drake University Adult Literacy, was recognized as LDA-IA Educator of the Year at the annual awards banquet held during the Learning Disabilities Association of Iowa’s annual conference. It was held in Des Moines Oct. 25-26.
Murr was recognized for her years of service to adults who needed remediation in the skills, which were needed to improve reading achievement. She also recruited and trained volunteer tutors to facilitate multi-sensory, interactive learning as they teach adults to learn to read.
Last year, 88 Drake University Adult Literacy Center volunteers provided one-to-one tutoring services for 102 adults. Murr has been involved as coordinator for 17 years.
