Mary Norris New Virginia

Mary Alice Norris, 81, of New Virginia died Saturday, Sept. 5, 2015, at her daughter’s home in West Des Moines.

Mary Alice Norris, daughter of Cecil Leroy Teater and Pearl Augusta Frye Teater, was born Nov. 22, 1933, in Corydon.

Mary received her early education in Corydon until age 10. The family then moved to the south side of Des Moines where she attended McKinley Elementary and Lincoln High School. Mary received her diploma from Interstate 35 after moving to New Virginia.

On Jan, 12, 1957, Mary married Merle Gene “Buck” Norris at West Des Moines.

Mary worked at Look Magazine in Des Moines during the 1950’s and later worked at Furnas Electric in Osceola for 20 years until her retirement in 1998.

Mary is survived by her sons, Doyle (Phyllis) Norris of Indianola, Cecil (Sheila) Norris of Smyrna, Tenn., Martin (Amy) Norris of Truro, Mitch Norris of New Virginia and Dustin Norris of Des Moines; daughter Joyce (Jim) Norris of West Des Moines; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren; brother Frank Teater of Baton Rouge, La.; brother-in-law Donald (Evelyn) Norris of Plano, Texas; sisters-in-law, Joyce (Pete) Pedersen of Ft Collins, Colo. and Nancy Norris of Atlanta, Ga.; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.

Mary was preceded in death by her parents; husband Buck in 2007; father-in-law Cliff Norris; mother-in-law Ruth Norris; sister Esther Brassfield; brothers, Ed Teater and John Teater and granddaughter Kristin Hinkle.
