Schaff resigns from city council

I write this letter today to regretfully let the citizens of Osceola know that by the time you read this, I will have resigned from Osceola City Council.

This wasn’t an easy decision for me to make. I appreciate everyone who has supported me over the last several years. Frustrations with the direction this city is headed has continued to take a toll on my health and because of my health issues I don’t feel I can continue.

I feel I have a major lack of support from my fellow council members to make the needed changes I feel this city deserves. I’m not the type of person to give up without a fight, but I’m out-numbered and have realized you can’t fight a battle alone.

I feel this town needs to unite together as a community and demand some changes. My opinion is that a major house cleaning needs to take place. I feel we have no maintenance program with our streets. We have numerous areas around this community for recreation that aren’t utilized or maintained.

I don’t feel any planning on how we will pay for the new sewer plant is happening. We can’t just continue to raise these rates anymore. I feel we have a group of department heads who aren’t accountable, and quite frankly, my opinion is the city deserves better.

I haven’t always made the right decisions, but I’ve always had the best interests of this community at heart. Osceola should be growing and moving forward. We have all the major transportation here that any community could want. My opinion is we lack good leadership.

So, with that said my seat is now open on the council. Someone please step forward and demand some changes for this community.

Two things will happen now that I’ve resigned. Either the existing council will appoint who they want to fill my unexpired term or you as electors of the city have the right to file a petition requiring the vacancy be filled by a special election.

Please don’t let them select another candidate, push for the special election and chose a candidate who will push for some needed changes.

After you get your new council member, unite as a community and stand behind them.

It has been my pleasure to serve you as your council member at-large.
