This has been a record cool July. The crops are beautiful but late.
Jim and Elaine Canney attended the Hewitt Reunion in Grand River on last Sunday to invite them to the Lantz Reunion which will be held Aug. 2 in the Weldon Community Center. John Milton Lantz’s granddaughter, Cleo, married Lee Hewitt.
Elaine Canney taught the final bridge class July 20. Her class members were Judy Jenkins, Noney Moore, Wanda Gorsline and Coral Wypich. They will be playing at the Weldon Corner with some former students, Kenlyn Kelso, Mary Coffee, Janice Halls and Juanita Owens who subbed for Fran Ellis.
Donald Schecter of Eugene, Ore. visited Ted and Normalee Quayle on July 17. Donald is Ted’s cousin.
The Quayle Family celebrated the anniversary of Lanny and Pam Quayle on July 19 at Quayle Park. Those attending were Pam’s parents, Earl and Ella Hunt of Florida, Ted and Normalee Quayle, Rick Quayle of Lamoni, Peggy Smith of Des Moines, Gary and Vicki Weakland, Brian, Cari and Engleen of Boone, Courtney Rost and Jack of Marshalltown, Kelli and Hunter Wood of Ankeny, Corey Quayle, Niki and Tyler Pritchett of Chariton. They enjoyed playing horseshoes and toured the Weldon Depot.
Weldon City Council minutes as of July 6. Judy Hughes was here about Sam Brimm’s dogs barking all night. They will send a letter and Judy was told to start calling the sheriff and possible fines would be imposed. Also, Mark Beck’s dogs are running free. He will also receive a letter and the sheriff will be called. American State Bank called about Tabby Moore’s old house, has been foreclosed on and the bank would like the city to waive lien or waive part of lien against property for past due sewer. The Council voted and was unanimous and vote was not waiving any of the liens. No electricity in Depot, Scale house or Maintenance Shed. Jay Williams was at meeting and went to check. It was only a breaker. Jay reset and now buildings have power. Turner asked about why city now has debit cards, explained others were charging on accounts in Osceola and cards would prevent this from happening. Council would like a copy of bank statement every month with minutes. City clerk will begin making copies for meeting. Vote was to keep bank cards. Yes Rick and Victor No Turner. Murray Jamboree is Aug. 7 from 7- 9 p.m. at Murray.
Clarke County Music Jam is Aug. 2 at 2-5 p.m. at Osceola Fairgrounds. Everyone welcome.

LaFollette Reunion was held July 18 at Weldon Community Center. This is the first year the Rinderspacher come to meet some of their relatives. Eddie Rinderspacher address is

Richard and Cora Blackburn of Osceola bought Earl Mason garage, recent contents and everything is all legal now. Richard and Cora will be cleaning everything up. Richard likes to work on his Wheel horses and his old cars. We are happy to have them in Weldon.
The Gospel Music was held July 19 at Baraum Community Center in Decatur. There were 18 people there and musicians. Piano player was Leota Tuttle of Leon as Barbara Audlehelm was sick. Special guests were Nellie Wright of Osceola celebrating her 82nd birthday with her sister Dorothy Horton. Robert Endrular of Murray, Elaine Hill, Ron and Maxine LaFollette with Ron’s relation Clyde LaFollette of LaPort, Indiana plus many others. Louann recited her poems and sang songs.
Weldon Christian Church held Bible School July 20-24. Eula West and Avis Collins made food for the children.
Gary Robins took his mother Audra Robins to Leon Fairground to watch the Dog Show.
Audra has a new dog, Kate, to keep her company.
Sharon Hagen, Betty Savely, Avis Collins, Cora Blackburn and Gretchen Hagen went to the Boat celebrating Sharon’s birthday July 22 and Betty’s birthday July 29.
