U.S. Cellular’s district manager for the Osceola area Jennie Larson has teamed up with the South Central Iowa Community Action Program to provide Osceola families with traditional Thanksgiving meals this holiday season.
“We try at each location to give back to the community at some level,” said Larson.
The goal is to provide a minimum of 25 families in Osceola that are in need with the ingredients to make Thanksgiving dinner for 6 people. There are various donation drop off sites around town for anyone to contribute. A few different drop off locations include Dollar General, Hy-Vee, Fareway, Clark's Furniture, Chiropractic 1st and U.S. Cellular.
Prior to Nov. 15 the U.S. Cellular location in Osceola is at 105 E. McLane St. The store location will be moving Nov. 15 to 214 S. Main St. Anyone wanting to drop off donations after Nov. 15 please use the new address.
Businesses can sponsor boxes as well as individuals and names of those who have donated will be on the boxes when they get delivered the families. If a family or business would like to put together a box os requested items just contact Samantha at the Osceola U.S. Cellualr at 641-223-8253.
The list of items to be in each box include:
• chicken broth
• celery
• cans of corn
• cans of cream of mushroom soup
• pies
• Frenches Onions
• sweet potatos/yams
• stuffing
• gravy
• cranberry sauce
• carrots
• cans of green beans
• rolls
• butter
• 5 lb bag of potatos
• mini marshmallows
• gift cards
Lists are at Hy-Vee and Fareway as well as on the front of each donation bos. SCICAP will be finding the families in need. The boxes will be rounded up and taken to SCICAP Nov. 25 then SCICAP will delivery the boxes to families in need.
This is the first annual Thanksgiving Food Drive done by U.S. Cellular and SCICAP.
“I think this would be a magnificent event to do every year,” said Larson. “The goal is 25 families minimum but my goodness we’d love to feed more.”
